A group of high school students from the RSEC Academy braved the cold on Saturday, February 4th and took a plunge in the Atlantic Ocean with fellow students from across New Hampshire to help raise funds for the Special Olympics. Their efforts helped raise $3,439.
The High School Plunge is an annual Special Olympics New Hampshire fundraising event, raising funds for SONH Unified Sports®. The High School Plunge is open to high school students, faculty and staff of an SAU. High School Plungers jumped into the Atlantic Ocean at Hampton Beach on February 4th.
“Congratulations go out to all the Plungers, their supporters, and the organizers from The RSEC Academy! The Academy truly showed what a difference even a small group of individuals can make,” said Judy Koch, executive director of RSEC.
Participants solicited support from friends, family, and teachers to benefit Special Olympics New Hampshire. Ashley Waxman raised nearly $1,000 and was RSEC’s biggest fundraiser.
Plungers gathered at Hampton Beach for the plunge and were welcomed by Masters of Ceremonies WMUR-TV 9’s Meteorologist Kevin Skarupa, and Mark Ericson and Karen Kiley of WOKQ’s Morning Waking Crew. In total, 483 High School Plungers from 43 schools participated and collectively raised $179,688 for Special Olympics.
