
Regional Services Education Center (RSEC) announces the hire of Dr. Peter R. Berg, Ed. D, CHMC, as assistant director for both The RSEC Academy Middle School and High School. Dr. Berg has been selected to fill the position vacated at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year due to the retirement of Stan Shupe.
“Dr. Berg’s range of experience will be sure to lend innovative insights, new approaches, and enthusiasm to The RSEC Academy’s programs and we are pleased to welcome him to our team, said The RSEC Academy Director, Janet Reed. “We provide academic programs catered to the specific needs of each student, and Dr. Berg’s past experiences will prove to be invaluable to accomplishing this goal and providing our students with the tools they need to succeed.”
Dr. Berg received his Doctorate degree in Education in Teacher Leadership from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2013, where he explored the ties between school leadership and progressive and holistic education. He received his Master’s degree in Environmental Studies and Education from Antioch University. He is also the author of The Tao of Teenagers: A Guide to Teen Health, Happiness & Empowerment, and is a board-certified holistic health and mental health coach.
As both founder and owner of Youth Transformations, an organization dedicated to educating young adults and families about integrated health and youth empowerment, Dr. Berg provided training in educational and one-on-one environments about how to empower children and teens. Dr. Berg’s expertise includes administration, curriculum development and design, teaching strategy, literacy, service learning, integrated education, and community outreach.
Dr. Berg comes to The RSEC Academy with more than 25 years of experience in education. He began his career as a teacher in the New York City Metro Area Public Schools and continued his career through a variety of teaching and administrative positions including a science and math teacher at Seacoast Charter School in Kingston, New Hampshire, where he later became assistant principal. Dr. Berg also served as director of operations for academic support at Cambridge Institute of International Education in Waltham, Massachusetts. Most recently, Dr. Berg was an adjunct faculty member in the online program of the Self Design Graduate Institute and was principal of The New School in Kennebunk, Maine.
Dr. Berg will begin his role as The RSEC Academy High School and The RSEC Academy Middle School as assistant director at the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year.
