Sunrise to honor Jan McDonald

Community invited to celebrate impact of well-loved caregiver and teacher on Thursday, June 14

Sunrise Children’s Center will install and dedicate a memorial bench and tree in memory of Jan McDonald, known by many as Miss Jan – a longtime teacher at the school and beloved member of the Sunrise Children’s Center community who passed away from cancer in June of 2017.

“Jan was the head teacher in the Infant Room for several years and was an inspiration for employees on how to treat children and each other,” said Nancy Gagnon, director at Sunrise who worked with Miss Jan for many years. “Many parents came to Miss Jan for parenting advice for their infants and everyone who knew her adored her. Together with friends, teachers, students, colleagues, and family, the staff and children at Sunrise wanted to honor her with a lasting memorial and garden.”

Members of the community are invited to attend the ribbon cutting and brief ceremony to commemorate the memorial, which begins at 4 pm on Thursday, June 14. Lemonade and cookies – light refreshments – will be served. RSVP is not required.

Donations to support the memorial bench and garden are gratefully accepted.
