Sunrise offers new enrichment programs

By RSEC Team | October 1, 2018

Beginning in October we will offer our first of many 6-week sessions of enrichment programs. We’ve added a few new ways to have fun and let children explore different activities through partnerships with community businesses as well as in-house resources. Check them out and let us know what type of programs you’d like to see next!

Parents Club

Are you interested in helping our program grow? Do you have access to resources our school could use? Are you not sure how you can help? We have the answer!

Sunrise is interested in developing a Parent’s Club. A group of parents who wish to see our preschool flourish by aiding in our school programs, developing a strong relationship with our community, and assisting in raising funds to improve the preschool. Please contact Ms. Michelle Terlizzi if you are interested.

Ducks in a Row Yoga

We welcome Ms. Amanda from Ducks in a Row Yoga to Sunrise! She will hold two 30-minute sessions each Tuesday morning from October 8 to November.

Focused on yoga for kids, Ducks in a Row Yoga excels in introducing yoga to children in a way that is fun and easy for our students to understand. Teaching them mindful movement through games and songs. Developing tools for dealing with stress, anger, and anxiety with new ways to breathe, and when to use them. All while developing an understanding of how to be kind to ourselves and those around us.

Ducks in a Row Yoga was founded by Amanda Barrick of Wilton, NH, in 2017, after recognizing the importance for her own children to learn stress, anger, and anxiety management skills. As well as the need to teach children of all ages how to be mindful not only in their words, but with their actions also.

Amanda is a RYT 200, as recognized by Yoga Alliance. As well as a Certified Advanced ChildLight Children’s Yoga Instructor. Having completed over 112 hours of specialty children’s yoga and mindfulness training, she is currently in the process of applying for a specialty designation under Yoga Alliance as a RCYT.

Please let the Sunrise front desk know if you are interested to ensure that your child does not miss this wonderful opportunity. Payment is $30 for the session, payable by cash or check.

Library and Literacy

We are pleased to welcome back Ms. Lisa from the Amherst Public Library. She will be visiting us twice a month. During her visits she will read and share in two classrooms. These dates and classrooms are posted on the front of our newsletter and our events bulletin board.

Also, this year we welcome students from The RSEC Academy as they visit classrooms with stories told through theatre and drama. We are excited to see their monthly unique storytelling and story presentations. The middle school students have been looking forward to sharing their time, learning, and sharing experiences with the students of Sunrise. In their Social Thinking class, they have been working on creating social stories (including being a good friend, using good manners, washing our hands, and sharing) and creating paper bag puppets to help tell the stories! Our middle school students are also very excited to play and read with the students of Sunrise, and look forward to being good role models.

Community service – helping victims of Hurricane Florence

As many of you have seen, eastern North Carolina has been devastated by Hurricane Florence. My hometown of New Bern was in the spotlight for news coverage. In conjunction with The Academy, Sunrise will be developing a community service project to aid in the rebuilding needs of families and friends in New Bern. More information will be forthcoming. Please let us know if you are interested in helping or have ideas or feedback about this effort.
