Diabetes Information:

In the 2025 legislative session, Senate Bill 102 added Section 200:40-d to Title XV - Education, Chapter 200 - Health and Sanitation, requiring the NH Department of Education to consult with the NH Department of Health and Human Services to develop or identify existing informational materials on type 1 diabetes.

In addition, this statute requires school districts to make these materials available to parents or guardians of enrolled students by posting NHED's web resources, included in this toolkit, or making them otherwise available.

The resources included in this toolkit address the required informational materials articulated in RSA 200:40-d, including:

(a) A description of type 1 diabetes;

(b) A description of risk factors and warning signs associated with type 1 diabetes;

(c) A recommendation that the parents or guardians of students displaying warning signs associated with type 1 diabetes should consult with the student’s primary care provider to determine if screening for type 1 diabetes is appropriate;

(d) A description of the screening process for type 1 diabetes and the implications of test results; and

(e) A recommendation that, following a type 1 diagnosis, parents or guardians should consult with the student’s primary care provider to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
