Why Longview
About the Longview School
The Longview School is a private, adventure-based school for students who benefit from wilderness and adventure-based counseling. We are a New Hampshire Department of Education-approved, diploma-granting day program that provides adventure-based learning, experiential education and therapeutic services to high school students living with learning disabilities or emotional challenges.
Our Approach
We take a strengths-based approach that incorporates adventure-based learning and experiential education to help students build relationships and strengthen their belief in themselves. Our approach is to help students overcome challenges in the classroom and beyond by developing self-efficacy.
Our Location
The Longview School is operated in a large, open log lodge located on a 154-acre campus bordering Pawtuckaway State Park in Deerfield, New Hampshire. We take full advantage of the wilderness setting with project-based academics, which are an inspiration for visual and culinary Arts-Based Counseling programs and Adventure-Based Counseling activities.
Our Classes
Our unique programs, such as multi-day hiking and camping expeditions, culinary arts and even outdoor classrooms, sets Longview apart. We keep our class sizes small (no more than eight students per classroom) to provide an intimate, creative atmosphere where students who are struggling can better understand their behaviors and build relationships in pro-social activities.
Our Campus
The Longview School campus is a grand log structure located at the top of a mountain, seated amongst hiking trails, gardens, a greenhouse, student-created sculptures and artwork and overlooks panoramic views of a 5,000-acre nature preserve. Many outbuildings, pathways, artwork, and even lunch recipes were created by students as part of their curriculum. All outdoor equipment is provided at no cost.
